  • ABSTRACT
  • Here we report the case of a patient who developed sepsis caused by methicillin-resistant staphylococci after undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (PCNL). On postoperative day 8, she developed muscle weakness in both her upper and lower extremities. Clinical findings, electrophysiological studies, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis supported the diagnosis of acute motor axonal neuropathy (AMAN), a variant of Guillain-Barré Syndrome. She responded to the prompt administration of intravenous immunoglobulin and early physical therapy, and was left with only slight weakness in her lower limbs. Although Guillain-Barré Syndrome secondary to sepsis is rare, physicians should be alert to this potential consequence.
