  • ABSTRACT
  • In smart grid, power quality events or power disturbances are caused by not only conventional non-linear loads but also the broad application of power electronic converter interfaced power generation devices, transmission equipments, and controllable loads, etc. The types of power quality event include momentary interruption, voltage sag, swell, flicker, harmonic, inter-harmonic, transients and frequency deviation, etc. The adverse effects of power disturbance to large scale and distributed electric power systems need to be well investigated. Related research covers modeling of disturbance sources, power quality measurement and monitoring, power quality classification and identification, recognition of the causes of power quality events, locating of disturbance sources, analysis of the uncertainty of harmonics propagations, analysis of the uncertainty of harmonic resonance, harmonic stability, power quality assessment, system level power disturbance mitigation, power system planning/dispatching/restoration considering power quality factors, etc. DMS integrating Power quality Automation Functions provides technical support for system level information of power quality and operating strategies for power quality management and improvement in smart grid.
